2014-BAFTA-ArtworkFollowing Wednesday’s announcement of the 2014 BAFTA nominations, we have the honour of debuting the beautiful poster for this year’s ceremony.

Stephen Fry will once more be returning to host the awards ceremony, marking the comedian’s ninth time in the role. Last year’s broadcast on BBC One had the highest ratings for the awards since 2004, and no doubt BAFTA will be looking to build on that even more next month.

Leading the charge this year with eleven nods to its name is Alfonso Cuarón’s acclaimed Gravity, followed closely by 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle with ten nominations apiece. Captain Phillips comes a close fourth with nine to its name; Saving Mr. Banks and Behind the Candelabra earn five each; and Rush, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Philomena follow with four.

Last year, Ben Affleck walked away with both the Best Director and Best Picture Awards, and I can’t wait to see if one of the nominees this year can pull off the same feat. Steve McQueen and Alfonso Cuarón are the only two in the running to do the same, and it’s going to be an incredibly interesting night, with some fierce competition across the board.

12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, and Philomena are the five contenders in the Best Film category, and as ever, we look forward to BAFTA’s annual commission for a series of alternate posters that serve as the cover for the ceremony’s programs.

The 2014 EE British Academy Film Awards will be held on Sunday, 16th February, at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, and they will be broadcast on BBC One, preceded by the red carpet show on BBC Three. We’ll be bringing you the results as they happen on the night, and would love for you to join us. It’s going to be a great night.
