In Beautiful Creatures, Warner Bros. have the potential for a very successful new franchise, with the fantasy, dramatic, and romantic elements set to draw in a wide teen audience early next year. And with Twilight coming to an end next month, the timing is naturally just right.

We saw the first trailer for the film a few weeks back, and now the studio have released a new featurette going behind the scenes with the director, the cast, and the novel’s authors on moving from the book to the screen.

“A supernatural love story set in the South, “Beautiful Creatures” tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.”

Rising young stars Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa) and Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker) take the lead alongside an impressive cast, headed up by the brilliant Emmy Rossum (The Phantom of the Opera), Emma Thompson (Love Actually), Jeremy Irons (Margin Call), and Viola Davis (The Help).

Richard LaGravenese (Water for Elephants) is behind the camera, directing from his own script, adapting the first in the best-selling series of novels by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Beautiful Creatures is set to be released in the UK and US on 13th February, 2013, making for the perfect Valentine’s Day film for the young romantics. It will be going up against A Good Day to Die Hard (a.k.a. Die Hard 5), which comes out on the 14th, and it’s going to be very interesting to see which films takes the top of the box office that weekend.
