Released last year, The Other F Word is one of the biggest music-related documentaries in a long time, featuring such names from the punk-rock scene as Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, skater Tony Hawk, RHCP’s Flea, and many more, on the subject of Fatherhood – the other F word..

And following on from the documentary’s warm reception amongst fans and critics alike, Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and writer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) have now sold a pitch to Fox to turn the film into a feature comedy.

Segel will be taking the lead in the film, and will be co-writing with Pearce, with both set to executive produce.

The project was hotly contested by a number of studios, before Fox snapped it up – and with Segel and Pearce both pitching, it’s not difficult to imagine why.

The film will revolve around a man (Segel) who was once in a rock band, and goes back on tour years after his golden age.

Segel recently returned to the small screen for the eighth season of How I Met Your Mother, and will soon be reprising his role in Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, before next summer’s The End of the World (previously titled The Apocalypse / Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse), reuniting him with Seth Rogen, James Franco, Paul Rudd, and so many brilliant stars, which I really can’t wait for.

Pearce has been very much on the rise in recent years, which is brilliant to see. He’s co-written next spring’s Iron Man 3 with Shane Black, and was recently tapped to polish the script for Godzilla, along with having had the Sherlock Holmes 3 writing job for a little while now. Naturally, he’s definitely one to keep an eye on in the years to come.

No word yet on when this might get underway, but we’re hoping it will be sooner rather than later, because a Segel/Pearce combination sounds pretty unbeatable. For now, here’s the trailer for last year’s original documentary. Enjoy.
