Peter Ho-Sun Chan (The Swordsman) returned behind the camera for another martial arts action/epic, taking Wu Xia (Dragon) to Cannes last year, and coming away with excellent early reviews.

The film was released in China last summer, and is finally getting its US release at the end of next month, with a VoD release hitting the States next Friday, and now the poster and trailer have officially dropped, thanks to Twitch and Apple.

“Liu Jin-xi (Yen) is a village craftsman whose quiet life is irrevocably shattered by the arrival of two notorious gangsters in the local general store. When Liu single-handedly saves the shopkeeper’s life, he comes under investigation by detective Xu Bai-jiu (Kaneshiro). Convinced that Liu’s martial arts mastery belies a hidden history of training by one of the region’s vicious clans, Xu doggedly pursues the shy hero–and draws the attention of China’s criminal underworld in the process.”

The acclaimed Donnie Yen (Ip Man) takes the lead, with Chan re-uniting once more with Takeshi Kaneshiro (The Swordsman), with rising young star Tang Wei (Lust, Caution) completing the cast.

The film went to the top of the Chinese box office in its opening weekend last year, and with a trailer like this, it should do some solid business for Radius/TWC, who are distributing the film in the US.

Dragon will be released in the US through VoD next Friday, 26th October, before getting a theatrical release on 30th November. No word yet on when it will be arriving in the UK, but Yen is naturally a huge name on our shores, too, so hopefully we’ll see it either in theatres or straight to DVD/Blu-ray in the near future. For now, here’s the brilliant US trailer, followed by the poster, which you can click to enlarge. Enjoy.
