Alex Cross posterRob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) returns behind the camera this year to bring us the latest adaptation of James Patterson’s best-selling Alex Cross novels, which began with Morgan Freeman in the lead in Kiss the Girls and its follow-up, Along Came a Spider.

Tyler Perry stars as the eponymous detective this time around, and with the film set for release in the US this Friday, Summit have released a new TV spot.

“After Washington DC detective Alex Cross is told that a family member has been murdered, he vows to track down the killer. He soon discovers that she was not his first victim and that things are not what they seem.”

Perry stars alongside the brilliant Matthew Fox, who appears to be utterly transformed into a pretty hench machine, with Ed Burns (Saving Private Ryan), Rachel Nichols (Alias), Jean Reno (Leon), Giancarlo Esposito (The Usual Suspects), and John C. McGinley (Wall Street, Scrubs) completing the cast nicely.

Cohen is directing from a script co-written by Marc Moss (Along Came a Spider) and Kerry Williamson, adapting James Patterson’s 2006 novel, Cross.

In the US, it will be going up against Paranormal Activity 4, Nobody Walks, and The Sessions, all of which will be playing to largely different audiences, and it will be interesting to see what the box office numbers look like come Monday morning.

Alex Cross will be  released in the US this Friday, 19th October, followed by a 30th November release here in the UK. The Morgan Freeman-led films did fairly well at the box office, and here’s to hoping that Alex Cross will follow in their footsteps.
