Starring Toby Jones and Sienna Miller as the real-life Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren, The Girl sees the great HBO and BBC partnering up for what promises to be a fascinating look at the director’s obsession with the star of The Birds and Marnie.

Airing on HBO next Saturday, the first poster for the film has now been released, along with a new featurette, going behind the scenes with the stars and filmmakers to talk about the film.

“Alfred Hitchcock (Toby Jones) was at the height of his fame and creativity when, in 1962, he chose an unknown fashion model to star in his most ambitious film – The Birds. But as he sculpted Tippi Hedren (Sienna Miller) into the perfect Hitchcock blonde of his imagination, he became obsessed with the impossible dream of winning the real woman’s love. His failure arguably destroyed both of their careers.”

Julian Jarrold (Becoming Janes, Brideshead Revisited) is behind the camera, directing from a script by Gwyneth Hughes (Five Days), with Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton, and Candice D’Arcy completing the cast.

The Girl will be broadcast on HBO on 20th October at 9pm. There’s still no word yet on when we can look forward to it on BBC2, but hopefully in the near future. For now, here’s the first poster, which you can click through to enlarge, followed by the latest featurette.
