Walter Salles’ anticipated adaptation of On the Road, the contemporary classic novel by Jack Kerouac, debuted back at Cannes to excellent early reviews, and has already seen its release in a handful of European countries.

The film will be heading to TIFF next month, and with its US release set firmly in the awards season this December, Yahoo Movies have debuted a new trailer for what promises to be one of the best dramas of the year.

“After the death of his father, Sal Paradise, an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty, a wild and infectiously charismatic ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined to avoid the pitfalls of a narrow, prescribed life, Sal hits the road, joining Dean on what evolves into a life-changing physical and emotional odyssey. Thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, the ecstasy of experience, the connectedness of humanity and ultimately themselves.”

Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart lead the all-star cast, with the support coming from Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, Alice Braga, Elisabeth Moss, Kirsten Dunst, and Viggo Mortensen.

Salles is reuniting with Jose Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries), who penned the script, adapting Kerouac’s original novel. Craig thought it had its good sides and bad when he caught the film at Cannes – you can read his review here – but I’m nonetheless extremely looking forward to when it reaches the big screen.

On the Road will be released here in the UK on 12th October, followed by a 21st December release in the US, cementing its intentions to head into the awards race. I can’t wait. For now, here’s the great new trailer to enjoy as we head into the weekend.
