Michael Fassbender has had an incredibly successful slate in recent years, and it looks like he’s got no intentions of slowing down, which is excellent new for all of us who’ve been loving his work.
With three reunions currently on his schedule in the form of Twelve Years a Slave (re-teaming with Steve McQueen), The Counselor (Ridley Scott), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (Matthew Vaughn), Vulture report that the actor has now entered negotiations to join Jane Got a Gun, which has also attracted the brilliant Natalie Portman in the lead female role, and Lynne Ramsey behind the camera.
Portman, who is also producing, would star as,
“a woman married to an outlaw who returns home bullet-riddled and half-dead, betrayed by criminal confederates hot on his heels. Fassbender would play the ex-lover Portman seeks out to help her defend her farm from the imminent onslaught of black hats.”
Lynne Ramsey, who has three BAFTA nominations to her name, and who helmed last year’s critically acclaimed We Need to Talk About Kevin, is set to direct from a Black List by Brian Duffield.
The Western, which is budgeted at well under $20m., is being entirely independently financed by producer Scott Productions, the banner from Scott Steindorff (The Lincoln Lawyer, the upcoming Runner, Runner).
If all goes well, the plan is to start shooting by early next year, and with a bit of luck, a project like this could certainly be an awards contender come this time next year. It’s early days yet, but Portman, Fassbender, and Ramsey are all deservedly loved by critics and audiences alike, and we can’t wait to see how this progresses. More as we get it.
