Back in February this year, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the first instalment in George Lucas’ enormously successful series, was given the 3D treatment, and released in theatres across the globe, bringing in just north of $100m. for its troubles.

Lucasfilm have been planning to do the same for all six of the films, and now the release dates for the second and third films have been set for the autumn/fall of 2013.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones will be coming on 20th September, 2013, followed swiftly by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith on 11th October, 2013.

That means that, should Attack of the Clones get more than a three-week run, you might just be able to squeeze in a double-bill sitting of both films in 3D.

The 3D re-release of The Phantom Menace took its original $900m.-odd box office takings past the $1bn.-mark, and though Attack of the Clones currently sits at $650m. worldwide, Revenge of the Sith is closer to $850m., and might stand an outside chance of breaking the barrier, as well. (Though, in my books, The Phantom Menace shouldn’t really sit higher than The Dark Knight in the all-time highest-grossing films, but that’s mostly not important.)

I’m naturally well aware that the vast majority of people prefer the original trilogy to the prequel trilogy, but I personally quite like the most recent films. Either way, we’ll no doubt be able to look forward to seeing Episodes IV-VI released in 3D in the years to come, and we’ll bring you more news on all the coming Episodes as we get it. For now, here are the original trailers for the second and third films. Enjoy.
