Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, adapting Yann Martel’s acclaimed novel previously thought unadaptable, made a fantastic impression when the first trailer landed last month, instantly making it a strong contender in the coming awards season.

We caught a handful of new images from the film earlier in the week, and now a warm new poster has found its way online, with the rather apt tagline, ‘Believe the Unbelievable’.

“Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a tragic disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While marooned on a lifeboat, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with the ship’s only other survivor — a fearsome Bengal tiger.”

Newcomer Suraj Sharma takes the lead, starring alongside Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Rafe Spall (who replaced the previously-expected Tobey Maguire), and Gérard Depardieu, with Lee directing from a script by Oscar-nominated David Magee (Finding Neverland).

Life of Pi will be opening the NYFF next month, and will then be released in 3D in the US on 21st November, followed a month later by a UK release on 21st December. Lee is of course no stranger to the Oscars, and this is certainly one to see on the big screen when it hits. For now, enjoy this new poster, and as usual, you can click to enlarge.
