David Ayer will be heading to Toronto next month with his latest feature, End of Watch, starring Jake Gyellnhaal, Michael Peña, and Anna Kendrick in the leads, and early looks at the film have been glowing.

The writer-director has already lined up his next film, Breacher, with Arnold Schwarzenegger heading up the cast, joined by Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Dawn Olivieri, and Joe Manganiello.

And now Variety reports that the brilliant Malin Åkerman (Watchmen, Happythankyoumoreplease) is in talks to join the cast. The film follows,

“an elite DEA task force that robs a dangerous drug cartel under the guise of a tactical raid on one of its safe houses. They think they’ve gotten away with millions in merch, until team members begin getting bumped off one by one.”

Ayer is directing from a script by Skip Woods (Hitman, A Good Day to Die Hard), whose experience penning action sounds like this should definitely be one to look forward to.

The film has been in development for a few years now, under producer Joe Roth (Snow White and the Huntsman), and Bruce Willis was originally attached to take the lead, back when it was still called Ten. But his Expendables co-star has taken over, and it remains one to keep an eye on.

Making a huge impression back in 2009 in Watchmen, Åkerman has continued to rise in successive years, most recently starring alongside Tom Cruise and co. in Rock of Ages, and has one of the busiest upcoming slates of any young actress at the moment, with Simon West’s Nicolas Cage-starrer Stolen and Randall Miller’s CBGB being two highlights we’re excited about next year.

No word yet on when we can expect Breacher to hit the big screen, but Open Road have already acquired US distribution rights, and hopefully it will reach us in the UK, too, before the end of next year. More as we get it.
