Pete Travis’ Dredd 3D took Comic-Con by storm last month, where it debuted to brilliant reviews. The first trailer hit back in June, and now we’ve got a great new poster with Karl Urban front and centre as the eponymous Judge Dredd.

Starring alongside him will be the rising young star, Olivia Thirlby, as Judge Anderson, with Lena Headey starring as the antagonist, Ma-Ma.

“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”

Travis is directing from a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine), with Domhnall Gleeson, Wood Harris, and Jason Cope filling out the supporting cast.

Dredd 3D will be hitting UK cinemas on 7th September, followed by a 21st September release in the US. Garland has already talked about the possibility of turning the film into a trilogy, and said that this first film would need to hit $50m. in the US for that to happen, so be sure to see this on the big screen when it lands if you want to see Urban return for more.
