Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes the lead opposite Bruce Willis in just under two months, re-teaming with his Brick writer-director Rian Johnson for Looper, by far my most-anticipated sci-fi/action film of the year.

We saw eleven great new images from the film at the end of last week, and now Sony have released another awesome look at Gordon-Levitt looking as cool as can be despite the explosion going off behind him. I’m thinking he may have had a hand in it.

“In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.”

With strong support from the likes of Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo, Noah Segan, and Garrett Dillahunt, this movie is shaping up to be one of the best of 2012, and we can’t wait for it to hit.

Gordon-Levitt has done brilliantly to keep his career diverse over the years, and it looks like this will be another fantastic film having just seen him put in one of his best performances to date in The Dark Knight Rises.

Looper will be released in the UK and US on 28th September. Be sure to commit that date to memory, because this looks immense. As usual with this great new image, you can click to enlarge.
