Starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, and Olivia Wilde in the leads, People Like Us marks Alex Kurtzman’s directorial debut, and interestingly in a genre we’re not used to seeing his name attached to.

After getting the first trailer back in March, followed by a new featurette earlier this month, we’ve now got a great little thirty-second TV spot to share, as well as three new clips from Yahoo Movies.

Kurtzman’s previous screenwriting credits include, for example, Star Trek (and its upcoming sequel), Transformers, and Cowboys & Aliens, to say nothing of Alias and co-creating Fringe.

With such an impressive array of films already under his belt, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what he brings us in People Like Us, with less of a sci-fi and more of a drama approach.

“From DreamWorks Pictures comes ‘People Like Us,’ a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Chris Pine (‘Star Trek’) as Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, whose latest deal collapses on the day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. In the course of fulfilling his father’s last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about this family–and re-examine his own life choices in the process.”

The supporting cast is pretty excellent, including Jon Favreau, Mark Duplass, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Philip Baker Hall, and it sounds like this is one to look forward to.

People Like Us (previously titled Welcome to People) will be released on 29th June in the US. Unfortunately, it looks like we may have to wait for a DVD/Blu-ray release here in the UK, but with such a strong leading cast and an interesting man behind the camera making his debut, I think it should be worth the wait. Until then, the new clips and TV spot for your viewing pleasure.
