Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby is one of the year’s most highly anticipated projects, and needless to say, with a release scheduled for Christmas Day in the US, it’s all but a lock to be a strong contender at the Academy Awards early next year.
We just got a new image from the film earlier, and now the first trailer has made its online debut tonight over at Apple, giving a great idea of what we can expect from the film in the holiday season at the end of the year.
The ever-brilliant Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the eponymous Jay Gatsby, with Tobey Maguire playing the novel’s narrator, Nick Carraway; Carey Mulligan the female lead, Daisy Buchanan; alongside Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, and Elizabeth Debicki.

Luhrmann has penned the script with frequent past collaborator Craig Pearce (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet), and though there will no doubt be some sceptics who’d suggest that Fitzgerald’s original novel – considered by more than a few to be one of the best of all time – shouldn’t be adapted, this trailer will hopefully quell any fears you may have, because with an all-star cast such as it has, and with a talented director behind the camera, we’re sure for one of the finest films of the year as it comes to a close.
