This trailer has sort of blown my mind. I think it’s mainly because we get to see Elijah Wood in a very gritty and dark movie for the first time (or for the first time in a long time). Lord of the Rings had it’s dark moments but when you watch this very NSFW trailer, you’ll see what I mean. It’s also very different to his part in Back to the Future 2 (which I always like to reference) or equally in Happy Feet!
The trailer comes from the Cannes website via our pals at FirstShowing.net and shows Elijah Wood dominating women before killing them in what looks like very harsh ways as he plays the Maniac in Franck Khalfoun’s remake. The original trailer is completely screwed on the Cannes website but thanks to Alex who has spent time sorting it, we’re good to go!

Plot synopsis: Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill. Actress Nora Arnezeder is playing Anna. This Maniac remake is directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2, Wrong Turn at Tahoe) from a script by Alexandre Aja, Grégory Levasseur & C.A. Rosenberg. I’ll be seeing it in Cannes soon.
