Every year, Film4 partners up with Somerset House in London to put on the biggest outdoor cinema host to a selection of some of the best upcoming and classic films, and every year, it’s a big success.
Last year’s films included Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, a Die Hard / Attack the Block double-bill, Serpico, Troll Hunter, Thelma & Louise, and the UK premiere of The Skin I Live In.
The line-up for this year’s Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House has been announced, with tickets going on sale this Friday, and it includes the UK premieres of two highly anticipated films in the form of Walter Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road and John Hillcoat’s Lawless, as well as the people’s premiere of Akiva Schaffer’s The Watch (previously titled Neighborhood Watch).
On top of that, they’ll be bringing one of the best films of 2011 back to the big screen with Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. And as if that wasn’t enough, we have a bit of John Hughes in there for good measure, too.
Salles’ On the Road and Hillcoat’s Lawless will both be making their world debut this month at Cannes in Competition, and both are expected to be two of the best films of the year, so it’s brilliant news that Film4 will be bringing them to us early this summer.
Tickets will be priced at £14.50 for single screenings, £18 for double-bills, and £22.50 for premieres, with all prices subject to an additional booking fee.
Doors open at 18:30, followed shortly after by a DJ at 19:00, with the film kicking off at 21:00 each night.
