Reuniting with her Atonement and Pride & Prejudice director Joe Wright, Keira Knightley returns to the big screen in one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year.

Oscar-winning writer Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) is adapting Leo Tolstoy’s original novel, and now we have a lovely new image of Keira Knightley to share with you, adding to the two sets of images that we’ve seen of the cast already.

Alongside Knightley, we can look forward to seeing a fantastic cast in the form of Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Olivia Williams, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Ruth Wilson, and Holliday Grainger.

“The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”

Anna Karenina will be released in the UK on 7th September with Universal Pictures distributing. Focus Features – who are also distributing Knightley’s summer film, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, opposite Steve Carell – acquired the US rights for the film, but as yet haven’t announced when they’ll be releasing it.

Though it’s early days yet, I think the film definitely stands a fighting chance in a number of categories at the Oscars next year, so Focus may well want to release the film towards the end of the year with the Academy Awards in mind.

For now, your lovely new look at Knightley in the eponymous role as Anna Karenina. As usual, you can click to enlarge.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
