After teasing the possibility just a few days ago of a fourth and fifth Riddick film – Underverse and Furya – having had such a strong positive reaction from Universal, Vin Diesel’s brought us another brilliant new image of himself on set as the eponymous Riddick.

The film, which wrapped just over a month ago, sees him returning to work with writer-director David Twohy after making the first two films together, and Diesel had this to say via his official Facebook, continuing his usual trend of bringing things directly to his fans:

“A still from the Riddick set this year… we are in post and I can’t tell you how excited I am to see it manifest. You all were such a part of it becoming a reality… willed it into being, so to speak…

P.s. Filming Fast this summer is going to be incredible, haha… Thank you again for the opportunity to make magic.”

Karl Urban will be reprising his role as Vaako from the second film, The Chronicles of Riddick, with a host of fresh faces for the third instalment, including Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, singer-turning-actress Keri Hilson, and WWE’s Dave Bautista.

And in case you’ve not seen it already, the official plot looks a little something like this:

“The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000?s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004?s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.”

Whilst teasing the possibility of Underverse and Furya, Diesel also wrote that Universal have said the earliest they’ll be able to release the film is January, so we may still have some time to wait before it all unfolds on the big screen.

But you just know it’s going to be well worth that wait. Until then, we’ve had plenty of brilliant images from the set that Diesel’s shared with us already, and you can catch up on them all whilst you wait. As usual with this great new image, you can click to enlarge.
