Led by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as opposing candidates in the presidential election, The Campaign brings together the two actors for the first time in leading roles for a pairing that was all but an inevitability.

Their individual blends of comedy are in many ways pretty similar, and fans of both comedians don’t have long to wait for this union, with the film due out later this year.

Warner Bros. have set up two competing Facebook pages for each of the two candidates, and the first clips have debuted with them. Vote for Cam or Vote for Marty – the choice is yours.

“When long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about. As Election Day closes in, the two are locked in a dead heat, with insults quickly escalating to injury until all they care about is burying each other, in this mud-slinging, back-stabbing, home-wrecking comedy from “Meet the Parents” director Jay Roach that takes today’s political circus to its logical next level. Because even when you think campaign ethics have hit rock bottom, there’s room to dig a whole lot deeper.”

Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers) is directing from a script co-written by Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) and Shawn Harwell (Eastbound & Down, making his feature debut), and Roach has a great cast supporting Ferrell and Galifianakis, including increasingly rising star Jason Sudeikis, Sarah Baker, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and the great Dan Aykroyd.

The Campaign, previously titled Dog Fight, is due out in the US on 10th August, before coming to us a month and a half later in the UK on 28th September. It looks like it’s not going to be as controversial as Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator, but it should be a lot of fun in its own right. Here are the new clips for your viewing pleasure.
