The Samaritan is one of two upcoming lower-budget crime-thrillers starring Samuel L. Jackson. We got our first trailer and poster for Meeting Evil earlier this month, which pits Jackson opposite Luke Wilson, and now we have the trailer and poster debut for Jackson’s latest offering, The Samaritan.

Directed and co-written by David Weaver, the film also stars Luke Kirby (the upcoming Take This Waltz) as Jackson’s son, Ruth Negga (Breakfast on Pluto), and the great Tom Wilkinson (RocknRolla).

“After twenty-five years in prison, Foley is finished with the grifter’s life. When he meets an elusive young woman named Iris, the possibility of a new start looks real. But his past is proving to be a stubborn companion: Ethan, the son of his former partner, has an ingenious plan and he wants Foley in. The harder Foley tries to escape his past, the tighter he is ensnared in Ethan’?s web of secrets, until it becomes all too clear to Foley that some wrongs can never be made right.”

Jackson’s credits are a bit of a mixed affair, with many being nothing short of immense (Pulp Fiction, for example, earned him an Oscar nomination), whilst other roles don’t give him the chance to show off his full potential. Time will tell if this is one of the former or the latter.

The Samaritan is due to have a limited US theatrical release on 4th May, which will see it at the box office alongside another film starring Jackson, The Avengers. Two guesses which will come out on top. As usual with the first poster below, you can click to enlarge.
