We’ve seen a handful of things already from Pixar’s next offering, Brave, and they’re all pointing in the right direction. It looks like the animation studio will have another big success on their hands this summer – as we always knew they would.

Last we saw of the film was a wonderful Japanese poster and trailer, and now we have eleven terrific character wallpapers to share with you, courtesy of the Disney website itself.

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).”

Co-directed by Mark Andrews (head of story on The Incredibles) and Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), the film features a great voice cast that includes the likes of Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, and Craig Ferguson.

For those going to this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival in the summer, you’ll be pleased to know that it was announced earlier this week that Brave has been chosen as the closing film of the festival, making its European premiere here on 30th June.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we can also look forward to the Oscar-nominated Pixar short, La Luna, as the opening short film when Brave comes to cinemas this summer. (If you haven’t seen what the little boy in the film looks like yet, you can see him in all his adorableness right here.)

Brave will be opening in US theatres on 22nd June before coming to the UK two months later on 13th August. As usual with these great new images, you can click to enlarge. And you can click here for the rest of our coverage of Brave.
