Just yesterday, we got a fantastic new look at The Hunger Games that took us behind the scenes with interviews of the leading cast, including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, and the awesome Wes Bentley.
With just eleven days left until Lionsgate release Gary Ross’ adaptation of the first of Suzanne Collins’ original trilogy of novels, we’ve now got another look behind the scenes with over six minutes of footage, made up mostly of filming, with a few shots of rehearsals, and a nice bit of set construction at the end to round it off.
“In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.”
Along with all of the above, the supporting cast also includes the likes of Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, Isabelle Fuhrman, Willow Shields, and Amandla Stenberg.
Lionsgate have been doing an impressive job of promoting what could be one of 2012’s biggest films, and as we head into the final stretch, we can probably look forward to some great new things surfacing over the next week and a half.
The Hunger Games will be released in the UK and the US on 23rd March, and will be getting an IMAX release for anyone looking to enjoy this on an even bigger screen, and in case you’ve missed out, you can catch up on all our coverage for the film here.
