HBO has a new series coming up this year and, with the first three episodes set to premier for audiences at SXSW later this month, is produced by, starring, written by and directed by Lena Dunham.

The series, Girls, is aimed at young women and is a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of females in their early 20s.

Also starring Allison Williams and Jemima Kirke, Dunham also has the power of Judd Apatow backing her up as well, who is also in a producing capacity.

The new trailer offers some new footage, mixing both comedy and heart that undeniably reflects Apatow’s influence. It’s actually quite interesting to see a TV series about teenage girls that doesn’t involve surfing, house parties and /or constantly bad break-ups, so I’m hoping this series will do well as a gigantic breath of fresh air in a very typical genre.

Dunham is also starring in the upcoming indie comedy, Tiny Furniture, which she also wrote and directed, which is set to be released on 30th March.

Girls will air on HBO on 15th April, and for now, here’s the new trailer:
