We’ve seen a handful of things from Laika’s upcoming stop-motion animated comedy already, and they’ve all been terrific. The impressive voice cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) as the eponymous Norman, as well as Casey Affleck, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Anna Kendrick, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Apple have put out the new trailer for the film, due out later this year, and it is just as brilliant as we’re hoping the film will be in a few months’ time. Very promising stuff.

“The new 3D stop-motion comedy thriller from animation company LAIKA, reteaming the company with Focus Features after the groundbreaking Academy Award-nominated “Coraline.” “ParaNorman” is, following “Coraline,” the company’s second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. In “ParaNorman,” a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.”

Co-directors Chris Butler and Sam Fell are working from Butler’s script, with Butler making both his writing and directorial debut, and it looks like he’ll soon be a highly sought-after man for all kinds of new projects in the future after ParaNorman gets released.

The US will be getting this on 17th August, and then it’ll be crossing the Atlantic a month later for its UK release on 14th September. If this wasn’t already on your radar, I think now would be a good time to put it there. For now, enjoy this great new trailer. And if you’d like to see it in HD, you can do so over at Apple.
