Along with Marion Cotillard, Audrey Tautou is of course one of the best known French actresses internationally, and her films are always a safe bet to be wonderful. Her latest film, La Délicatesse, was released in France at the end of last year, and will be coming to the UK and US in April and March, released as ‘Delicacy’.
We’ve now got the first US trailer and poster to share with you, courtesy of Apple, and they give us an idea of the romance and comedy that we know and love of Tautou’s roles; it’s something she does perfectly.
“Audrey Tautou is Nathalie, a beautiful, happy, and successful Parisian business executive who finds herself suddenly widowed after a three-year marriage to her soul mate. To cope with her loss, she buries herself and her emotions in her work to the dismay of her friends, family and co-workers. One day, inexplicably, her zest for life and love is rekindled by a most unlikely source, her seemingly unexceptional, gauche, and average looking office subordinate, Markus (French comic star Francois Damiens, Heartbreaker). At first stunned by Nathalie’s unexpected attention, Markus comes to gradually believe in her feelings and shifts into romantic high gear. As their relationship goes from awkward to genuinely loving, Nathalie and Markus will have to overcome a host of obstacles including everyone else’s judgmental perceptions as well as their own self-doubts.”
The film marks the feature directorial debuts of co-directors David Foenkinos and Stéphane Foekinos (whom I believe are brothers), from David’s script, based on his 2009 best-selling novel.
There’s a great moment in the trailer when Tautou’s male love interest, François Damiens, is walking down the street and lavished with female attention that really reminds me of a similar scene in (500) Days of Summer with Joseph Gordon-Levitt happily walking down the street having just spent the night with Zooey Deschanel, so I’ve embedded that beneath the new trailer and poster for your viewing pleasure too.
Delicacy will be released in the States on 16th March before coming here to the UK on 13th April. Though the trailer isn’t subbed, there’s little dialogue in it that needs decoding, and you can certainly understand what’s going on with the visuals, and it looks lovely.
