Best known for her role as Dr. Elliot Reid in Scrubs, Sarah Chalke has signed on to star in a new ABC pilot from Claudia Lonow, the creator of Accidentally on Purpose. She’ll be taking the lead role for the show, entitled, How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life.

The show will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine Television, and will be in a similar vein to another of Fox’s comedies, How I Met Your Mother. It’s being described as,

“an outrageous comedy with lots of heart. It centers on Polly (Chalke), a recently divorced, single mom, who moves in with her eccentric parents, Elaine and Max, a couple who’s full of life but knows no boundaries.”

No word yet on who’ll be playing either the child(ren) or Chalke’s parents, but it sounds promising. Chalke had a recurring role in How I Met Your Mother a couple of years ago, and more recently starred in the short-lived Mad Love before it was cancelled, and is due to have another recurring part in the upcoming season of Cougar Town.

The Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer will be producing via Imagine Television, having worked with Lonow already on the Friends with Benefits series, and his TV credits also include Aaron Sorkin’s Sports Night, Arrested Development, Friday Night Lights, as well as 24, so essentially some of the best TV in recent years. I’m already sold, and am definitely looking forward to the new pilot. More news as we get it. And just for fun, here’s a great clip of Elliot turning the tables on Dr. Cox in Scrubs.
