Twelve Movie Comedies to look out for in 2012

Project X

Release date: 2nd March

Our coverage: Trailers / Posters

Produced by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips, Project X is basically just any frat party comedy you’ve seen a million times before – but shot in a Cloverfield style.

We know very little else – there’s no famous faces in the cast – but its definitely an intriguing idea and alongside Chronicle, 2012 could be the year the found footage genre (finally) comes of age.

Friends With Kids

Release date: 29th June

Our coverage: Trailers / Posters

Soon to be known as ‘the movie with all the people from Bridesmaids in it’, Kristen Wiig, John Hamm, Maya Rudolph and Chris O’Dowd all crop up in this flick about how kids affect relationships.

With that cast, it could easily be pushed as a gross-out LOL-fest, but it seems to be a much more sedate, adult comedy-drama. It’ll be interested to see how the marketing people play it.

Neighborhood Watch

Release date: 22nd August

Our coverage – click here

Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn and Richard Ayoade are a bumbling neighbourhood watch group who somehow stumble upon an alien conspiracy.

Little else is know – only one still has been released – but with that cast, a script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and directed by the Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, this could easily be the new Ghostbusters.

This Is Forty

Release date: 21st December

Our coverage – click here

It’s not due until December, but a new Judd Apatow film is always an event – he’s about the only comedy director able to sell a film on his name alone. A spin-off from Knocked-Up, focusing on Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s characters, the epic cast features Megan Fox, Chris O’Dowd, John Lithgow, Jason Segel and a host of others.

Let’s just hope Apatow can keep it shorter than Funny People this time.
