Low-budget horror/thrillers are usually one of two polar opposites. Either they’re brilliant, and they’re a bit of a waste of time. ATM looks to be very much in the former category, like a darker and more intense version of Joel Schumacher’s Phone Booth.

David Brooks is making his feature directorial debut, with a script coming from Chris Sparling, who wrote the 2010 thriller Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds, trapped inside a box for the entire ninety-minute film. Sparling seems to have a knack for being able to trap people inside enclosed spaces on camera, exploring what happens to them when things get ugly.

ATM is led by Alice Eve (the upcoming Men in Black III and Star Trek 2), Josh Peck (The Wackness), and Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker).

“On a late night visit to an ATM, three coworkers end up in a desperate fight for their lives when they become trapped by an unknown man.”

IMDB now have the first US trailer and teaser poster for the film, and it really does look impressive. The premise is simple, but very effective, and the direction genuinely does make it look frightening. Be thankful we don’t have ATM vestibules in the UK. (Though admittedly I’ve no idea if they are statistically safer than having our holes in the walls, but you know what I mean.)

IFC Films have picked the film up for US distribution, but a release date is yet to be set either here or across the Atlantic. I’m hoping that even though it’s a low-budget horror-thriller, we’ll still get to see it on the big screen over here. For now, here’s the great first trailer, and as usual with the teaser poster beneath, you can click to enlarge. Enjoy.
