HeyUGuys Reaction Shot – What are Your Most Anticipated Films of 2012?

It can be sorely tempting to go for something thoroughly avant-garde or unconventional, in an effort to establish my credentials as a serious film journalist and to show I’ve really got my finger on the pulse.

No doubt 2012 will throw up all manner of non-mainstream efforts that will be engaging, compelling, independently minded and praise-worthy, but I cannot pretend that I am anticipating them as eagerly as I am the summer superhero triple whammy.

Since I was in primary school my greatest cinematic joy has been comic book heroes and the summer of 2012 brings us a rare feast. Yes, The Dark Knight Rises is an obvious choice given the critical and commercial success of Nolan’s Bat-films, yes The Avengers may prove to be overblown nonsense and yes, The Amazing Spider-Man‘s POV shots may leave the film feeling like even more of a computer game than usual, but at the moment, I don’t care. I’m excited about all three and unless, or until those expectations are demolished by shambolic end products, my enthusiasm abides.

These films belong on the big screen, show consistent commitment to large-scale set pieces and between them involve some of my favourite film characters. Bring it.

About Adam Lowes

Mild-mannered civilian by day, passionate cinephile and dedicated blogger at night, my obsession began with seeing the image of Luke staring wistfully at the two stars of Tatooine, and 30-plus years later, that love have never wavered.

‘Act of Valor’ looks like US Marine Corps propaganda in its purest form. Probably most excited by John Hillcoat’s ‘Wettest Country’, if only for the reunion of Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy.

Obviously not big Tolkien geeks around here, eh?…

The Hobbit first, no question.  Then Prometheus, and The Dark Knight Rises (although not as much as I was for TDK).  The Avengers and Spider-Man just look “meh”.

Are these people stupid? Have we forgotten what cinema is?? no one mentioned DJANGO UNCHAINED

  • Kenji Lloyd

Gonna have to call you on that, sir.

    a) that’s not very nice,and b) I definitely mentioned Django Unchained!

Tarantino’s going to be better than Santa next year come Christmas Day 2012.

You’re completely right about The Hobbit, in my head that’s just a given! (Dave Szt)

    OK, what’s cinema then?

I wrote my bit before I saw the trailer for The Hobbit. It’s certainly very pretty, and I’m really keen to find out how people respond to 48 FPS cinema, but still not completely sold on the film itself.
