Real Steel has been in our sights for quite some time now, with the first trailer launching way back in December last year, giving us an insight into what looks to be a really fun film.
Since then, we’ve had two awesome posters that I rather love, and plenty more great stuff to boot, and you can catch up on it all here if you’re coming late to the party.
A brand new clip from the film has been released by the nice guys over at ComingSoon.net, and it shows Hugh Jackman, in the leading role, training what will be his championship boxing contender. And if case you haven’t guessed it already from the title, that boxer is a robot. And that robot looks pretty damn sweet.
“Real Steel stars Jackman as a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.”
The film is directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), with a screenplay written by John Gatins, who co-wrote the terrific Coach Carter. If you’ve seen that film, you’ll know that Gatins is capable of some incredibly inspirational writing, and judging by the music in this clip, which is so awesome, we can expect to see more of the same in Real Steel.
A further six new clips have also been released for the film over at Collider, giving us a look at some of the spectacular effects the film has to offer with the robots going at each other with a vengeance.
Along with Jackman in the lead and Goyo playing his son, the film also stars Evangeline Lilly (TV’s Lost), Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), and Hope Davis (About Schmidt). With its release date being 14th October, it’s really only a matter of weeks until we get to see the whole thing unfold on the big screen, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
