Never has my interest in all things Japanese been more piqued than during this past week since news broke about the devastation caused by the Tsunami which has struck beautiful Japan. A number of us here at HeyUGuys are huge fans of the films of internationally acclaimed Director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, so the following music video, which I stumbled across today completely randomly, may come as a pleasant surprise for fans of Anime and is an absolute testament to Miyazaki’s brilliance!

I visited Japan at the end of 2009 and absolutely fell in love with the country, culture and people and like so many others around the world, have found it very difficult taking in this awful news and all the images dominating our TV screens. In an attempt to educate myself a little more on all-things related to the rapidly changing situation concerning the safety of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, a flukey Google search about the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 led me to Japanese rock duo Chage & Aska’s exceptionally moving 1995  music video,  ‘On your mark’.  As it happens, it was inspired in part by the awful events in 1986 and really must be seen by fans of Miyazaki and anyone touched by Japan’s current plight.

Our thoughts are with the people of Japan and all those affected by this devastating tragedy.
