Since the news broke yesterday at THR that Channing Tatum was apparently shepherding a new cinematic variant of the Peter Pan story to the big screen, the internet has buckled under the weight of its own confusion. THE Channing Tatum? Dear John, no!

Before our minds are put to rest, however, and the universe can go back to its laws of nature, the question of whether he is attached as actor or producer is not the only uncertainty that has people scratching their heads. What exactly is the thing called?

Initially reported as Peter Pan Begins – please God not some tragic attempt to Nolanise Neverland with tumblers and growly voices – a update to the original article now references the project simply as Pan.

Also attached, albeit less ambiguously, are writer Billy Ray (Shattered Glass) and producer Paul Roth, who will follow box office bombshell Alice In Wonderland up with further literary adaptations Oz, the Great and Powerful and Sow White and the Huntsman.

Peter Pan was last adapted for the big screen in 2003’s surprisingly excellent live-action film from P. J. Hogan, although the character’s creator, J. M. Barry’s life was also charted a year later by Marc Forster.

Should model-turned-actor Tatum genuinely be set to star in the reboot, it would mark the largest departure from the source material since Robin Williams dowsed himself in pixie dust for Hook. All being right with the world, however, this little travesty will be cleared up in no time.
