Sean PennTwo of cinema’s biggest talents (one established, the other on his way to the top) could be teaming-up soon to go head-to-head in a period drama about a couple of figures from the literary world.

The Playlist are reporting that Sean Penn and Michael Fassbender are interesting in coming aboard Genius. Adapted from the award-winning non-fiction novel Max Perkins: Editor of Genius by Gladiator scribe John Logan, Penn is down for the role of the aforementioned editor who worked with such legendary US writers as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway during his long career.

If cast, Fassbender will play another equally celebrated novelist (Thomas Wolff), whom Perkins clashed with over numerous works.

Even if the subject matter seems a little dry and high-brow for some, surely the opportunity to see a twice Oscar-winning craftsman like Penn go up against a young, exciting talent like Fassbender would be worth the price of admission alone.
