Eastwood seems to be on an astonishing run of form of late, turning out consistently excellent, engaging work and it can only be hoped that J.Edgar will continue this. Added to the mix now is Damon Herriman, who has been cast in the interesting role of Bruno Hauptmann. Hauptmann was convicted in the 1930’s for the kidnapping and murder of the 20-month old son of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh, ultimately being executed by electric chair in 1936. Much campaigning by his widow ensued, in an effort to clear his name and J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI became involved in questioning the manner of the investigation into and prosecution of Hauptmann.
Damon Herriman has appeared in a number of episodes of TV show “Justified” and has a handful of small film roles on his CV, though he is for the most part relatively unknown. Certainly this role has the potential to take his career to a new level and no doubt Eastwood and his casting director see something of real quality in him.
We will bring you more casting news as this moves closer to commencing shooting in the new year.
