I wonder how long it will be before the identity of the new Hammer Studio is set, coming as they do into a very different cinematic world with a glorious, if a little archaic, reputation.

When I spoke to the CEO of Hammer Simon Oakes the film he was talking up, and naturally so, was The Woman in Black which was shooting at the time with Daniel Radcliffe, but the film he was very keen to talk about on was Wake Wood.  Starring Eva Birthistle, Aidan Gillen, and a nicely creepy Timothy Spall the film is due out soon, and today the first trailer was released into the wild.

From the limited look we get in the trailer below shades emerge of The Wicker Man and Matthew Hopkins: Witchfinder General in this tale of an offer made to a grieving couple to spend three days with their murdered daughter. There’s a simple and logical next step to that offer which may or may not end up featuring in the film and personally I can’t wait to see this one.

Empire did the right thing and gave this up.
