So we had “The Fast and the Furious”, then “2 Fast 2 Furious”, then “Tokyo Drift” (quite literally), then back to basics with “Fast & Furious”. Now we have “Fast Five”, the latest instalment in the now rather long-running and successful franchise. I suppose “Furious Five” would have drawn plagiarism accusations from Dreamworks, re: Kung Fu Panda and in any event I guess they are more defined by their speed than their fury?

In all seriousness, this may not prove to be as derivative as I have made it out to be. Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster and Tyrese Gibson all return, joined by Dwayne Johnson and Ludcris and directed by Justin Lin, who directed the previous two entries as well as “Annapolis”. Screenwriter Chris Morgan also scripted the last two films, as well as Wanted and Cellular.

Film Filia have a new poster for the film, with the usual shiny cars, moody looks and gratuitous flames, all present and correct.

How do you feel? Hungry for more of this? Or not so much?

Dave Roper
Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
