THR are reporting that Denis Leary (Wide Awake) has signed on to star in Columbia’s forthcoming Spider-Man reboot.
Leary has been cast as police captain George Stacy, Gwen Stacy’s father.
Marc Webb is attached to direct from a script penned by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Laura Ziski will produce.
Leary joins already cast members Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field. Meanwhile, Zooey Deschanel is in talks to play Betty Brant.
Production on the as-yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot is set to commence in December, with a release date set for July 3, 2012.
