My kids will be thrilled about this one. For the uninitiated, Horrid Henry is a series of books and now animated TV programmes about a boy called Henry who is, well, Horrid. His brother, Perfect Peter and his teacher, Miss Battleaxe feature regularly in his misadventures.

Vertigo Films, who were behind the $40m-grossing Streetdance 3D are producing a feature, live-action adaptation of Francesca Simon’s popular stories, with “Wild Child” director Nick Moore at the helm and Lucinda Whiteley on script duties.

Casting is underway and already attracting a high calibre of acting talent. Richard E. Grant (Withnail & I), Prunella Scales (Fawlty Towers), Angelica Huston (The Grifters, The Witches, The Darjeeling Limited), Parminder Nagra (ER), Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh), comedienne Jo Brand and Mathew Horne (Gavin and Stacey) are all on board, with Theo Stevenson (Fred Claus, In Bruges) cast as the eponymous Henry.

Horrid Henry: The Movie will be in 3D, *sigh*.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
