Tony Scott Talks Top Gun 2

Talk of a sequel to 1987’s megahit Top Gun (a film that launched the career of Tom Cruise and enabled the makers of Ray-Bans to take early retirement) has been slowly making its way around the web in the last week or so, and now the original’s director, Tony Scott, has chatted about his plans for the film.

Talking to HitFix, Scott makes his intentions clear as to the direction he wants to take the sequel in.

“I don’t want to do a remake.  I don’t want to do a reinvention.  I want to do a new movie.”

He stay’s tight-lipped about Cruise’s involvement, but does reveal that this feature wouldn’t be his next project, but could possibly be the one after. I wonder if pre-production would get bumped up on this if Mission: Impossible 4 underperforms at the box office?

In the meantime, if you’re in need of a Tony Scott fix, his new film Unstoppable (with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine) is released in the UK on 24th November.
