In an interview with on BBC Radio 5 Live as part of The Danny Baker Show, Stephen Fry revealed that he would portray the character of Mycroft Holmes in Sherlock Holmes 2.

Fry will star alongside Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Noomi Rapace in the action-adventure sequel to once again be directed by Guy Ritchie.

Here’s what Fry told Danny Baker about his involvement:

I’m playing Mycroft in the sequel to the Sherlock Holmes film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr., and that sort of part is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar [Wilde] had was a once in a lifetime thrill.

Warner Bros. will begin production on Sherlock Holmes 2 in the next few weeks, with a release date already set for December 16, 2011.

The first installment was a critical and commercial success, grossing an estimated $523M worldwide.
