Michael Caine to Join Sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth

Michael Caine appears to be showing no signs of slowing down, with reports coming through that he’s close to signing on for the sequel to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D – Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

The Hollywood Reporter brings news that the production is due to start around October, and that Caine will be involved in many of the film’s action sequences, as he takes on the role of grandfather to Josh Hutcherson’s character (who appeared in the first film). Brendan Fraser (the other big cast member from the previous one) is absent here, but Dwayne Johnson is onboard, playing the character of Hutcherson’s mum’s boyfriend.

It’s encouraging to see a veteran like Caine is still enthusiastic to take on something like this, and with another Batman film in the pipeline, it doesn’t look like he’s making any immediate plans to wind down yet.
