Mouth Off Episode 25 – Inception

It’s been a while but the Mouth Off team were too tempted by the furious momentum of Christopher Nolan’s Inception to sit this one out and the podcast returns to take apart the latest film from the man some people claim to be ‘The New Kubrick”.

That and other misguided statements about the film are lined up against the wall and debated to death as Bleeding Cool’s Brendon Connelly and I talk all things Nolan – the films and the hype and we also look closer at why Inception has garnered such a overwhelmingly positive response.

As always there’s our Ripped From the Crypt selections to take home with you in a party bag.

My Ripped from the Crypt choice this week is A Matter of Life and Death which doesn’t have a trailer online but here’s an early scene.

And as Brendon’s choice is of an unproduced script by Daniel Waters (A Model Daughter) I’ve included a trailer for Heathers, which is all kinds of genius.

As promised in the episode here’s the Powers of Ten video by Ray and Charles Eames. Take ten minutes to concentrate and you’ll love it.

Wow. What a performance. Not Leo DeCaprio, of course, but Brendon Connelly's masterful rendition of film school bluster as a pointless contrarian little gobsh!te. He sounds like a Professor trying to prove the scientific worth of Economic theory after the recent financial collapse. He can't be THIS upset about a bloody film.
Yes, you can have a go at individual people who claim to be cleverer than the rest of us but don't imagine that everyone who disagrees with you has just fundamentally misunderstood something. I know there are technical, structural and logical flaws with the film but he ISN'T the new Kubrick and thank God for that (the man could not direct PEOPLE for toffee IMHO, and I find it hard to care about his characters).
Anyway, your arguments that it wasn't what you expected, it wasn't edited to your satisfaction, you saw certain things coming and this made you want to throw your toys out of the pram are mostly personal problems that you (and many others, I'm sure) have. You WANTED him to direct each time zone at the correct speed? Are you crazy? It would have derailed the film into incomprehensible nonsense.
Wait. Are you the one who actually enjoyed Final Crisis?
