The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Matt Lucas is joining the cast of the comedy Bridesmaids.

Bridesmaids is set to be released on the 13th of May next year and comes from Judd Apatow’s seemingly unstoppable Apatow Productions.

Lucas joins a large cast that already includes Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Maya Rudolph, Jill Clayburgh, Chris O’Dowd, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Melissa McCarthy, Dianne Wiest and Jon Hamm.

The script comes courtesy of Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, who make their feature film scriptwriting debuts here. Interestingly the film is being directed by Paul Feig who was a key player in the series Freaks and Geeks, a series that I feel is still the best thing to come out of the ‘Apatow family’.

An early draft of the script has been floating around the internet for a while and has received positive reactions. The film centres on Annie (played by Wiig) who is asked by her friend to be her Maid of Honour, something which she struggles with.

The release of the film is still a long way off but I’m actually looking forward to this one as I have some faith in those involved. What do you think?
