I can not stay silent (almost wrote I c***nt stay silent). I did enjoy film and I loved performance. It was funny and great to watch Ray Winstone and wonderful John Hurt, whose phrase "I am upset" made my evening. I loved smooth editing and music background. And of course language. Everything seemed appropriate. But film is first about storytelling, Its "telling", although almost perfect, lacks the story and is incomplete. Director first trying to show inner drama switches to some chaos in the room while the most dramatic chaos is in his head - then switches back to his head and never completes the picture of painful emotions. People like this are very passionate or very cool. It's not a cliche created by american ganster movies, it's what most people are like in the situations of emotional challenge. The only two people on screen whom I believed were the "lover" and as he is credited "the old guy" (John Hurt). They look as if they really mean what they say or stay silent about. Other characters are incomplete because well.. there is nothing for them to tell or to act upon. No doubt film impresses with great performances. But it's a shame that all they say are swear words and all they do is... nothing. This is like perfectly performed narcissistic act in a room without a complete action or reason. But we have X factor for that.
