James Gunn thinks Nathan Fillion is Super

Slither was a B-movie that knew how to tickle, and though it may not have destroyed box office records it is a well crafted, marvellously hammy and fun movie and its director James Gunn has plucked one of Slither’s stars to join him in his new film, Super.

The man in question is Nathan Fillion, whose reputation in certain geek circles is unparalleled and whose appearances in, among others, Joss Whedon’s work (Firefly and Dr. Horrible to name but two favourites), has attracted many fans and James Gunn’s official site announced today that Fillion has been cast as a pop icon who inspires the film’s lead Frank (Rainn Wilson) to take up arms as a superhero without powers in a not-to-be-confused-with-Kick-Ass way.

Other casting for this film ratchets up the interest with every name. Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Ellen Page, and also announced today was Linda Cardellini who will play a character who, according to the site, ‘delivers love’ to Frank. Sounds fantastic.

I have no worries about this competing with Kick-Ass, as Gunn has proved himself to be a solid director whose inherent love of all things B-movie ensures that each time he takes on a genre he brings something a little different.
