As a recent fan of the Bourne series the news that Paul Greengrass has pulled out of directing the fourth Bourne film is a shame. Variety are reporting that Greengrass, who was never officially on the project, has ruled out his appearance behind the camera, although he remains a ‘devoted supporter’ of the franchise, and may remain in some capacity.
The Greengrass Bournes set the standard for the 21st century action thriller and his kinetic style has been absorbed by the other JB franchise with Casino Royale and especially Quantum of Solace borrowing more than a little pace and handheld flair from the Bourne films.
And while this news certainly doesn’t mean that Bourne 4 won’t happen (although Matt Damon has yet to sign up) Universal will be sated with the upcoming Damon/Greengrass collaboration The Green Zone which is looking, ironically, very Bourne-esque.
