I prefer ‘Touch of Evil’ over ‘Citizen Kane’ (NB - I said prefer), but there is no denying that ‘Citizen Kane’ is a great work of cinematic art. You gage a good movie based upon what *you* can sit through and enjoy? I would not hold my own taste in such high esteem as to judge the value of a film by what I enjoy… like you, I enjoy some pretty darn poor films (as well as good ones)… this certainly disallows me from saying a film is *good* based upon my own personally subjective taste of what I personally enjoy. I would not call any film the *best* because I do not believe that such can be judged out of some many thousands of films… on that score I would say that ‘Citizen Kane’ is over-rated only in that no film can be called *the best*. I would agree that ‘Citizen Kane’ is among the best that I have seen though – that is acceptable.
