Lorene Scafaria makes her feature directorial debut with Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, one of the longest (non-colon or -hyphen) titles I can recall in recent years, and it’s shaping up to be one of the summer’s finest comedy-dramas, with many listing it alongside Safety Not Guaranteed as must-see movies next season.
Starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley in the leads, alongside Adam Brody, Melanie Lynskey, Patton Oswalt, William Peterson, Gillian Jacobs, and many more, we’ve already had a fantastic first trailer from the film, and now we’ve been sent the new UK posters ahead of its release here in a month and a half.
“Set in a too-near future, a man searches for a meaningful connection as humanity’s last days are at hand. Can he find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge and Penny converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.”
Its forthcoming UK release will be in the same opening weekend as Soderbergh’s Magic Mike and Ice Age 4, the latter of which will likely trump the box office because of its fairly universal child appeal (and of course adult, too), but Seeking a Friend definitely looks like a solid choice that has my vote (as part of a double-bill with Magic Mike).
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, written and directed by Scafaria, will be released in the US before us on 22nd June, and as you can see from the first of the two posters below, the end of the world will be arriving on our shores a little later on 13th July. As usual with these new posters (which are, as you can see, a variation on the theme of that great first poster we got in February), you can click to enlarge.
This is one I really can’t wait for, so everyone set a mental note with me: 13th July.
